Description

Big Capacity and High Torque, with Toolroom Precision

The GDW LZ 600S is the largest machine in the classicline series. It is built in Germany for shops that turn large and heavy workpieces: shafts, rolls, flanges and components for energy, mining and general machinery. It swings 23.6 in over the bed and comes with 39, 59, 79 or 118 in between centers. The 3.2 in spindle bore (4.1 in optional) passes large bar stock through the headstock.

A 20 hp stepless main drive with a three-stage countershaft headstock covers 8 to 2,000 rpm and delivers high torque at low speeds for heavy roughing on large diameters. Feeds and thread pitches are stepless across a very wide range, from fine finishing feeds up to 0.79 in/rev. Thread pitches up to 100 mm can be cut in metric, inch, module and diametral pitch. Rapid traverse on the X and Z axes cuts non-cutting time on long parts.

The vibration-damped base, the hardened and ground guideways and a finely balanced main spindle let the LZ 600S hold precision well beyond the DIN 8606 acceptance limits. Daily operation is simplified by central lubrication, single-lever control on the apron, carriage-mounted controls and a tailstock with a drag device and 1:1 or 1:4 quill reduction. Automatic handwheel disengagement and a sliding chip guard come standard.
